ABSTRACT
Depicted below are a series of response diagrams that deal with issues surrounding urban ecology, including the relationship of living organisms and their environments.
URBAN RESILIENCE
In creating this graphic I wanted to evoke a sense of growth and decay. I wanted to depict a resilient city that had bounced back from environmental shock. In that, I layered three images on top of one another in order to depict a city rising from the ashes of defeat. At the base is an image of a city in ruins. Atop is a city that appears to rise and grow from a mound of rubble, thus creating a resilient city filled with growth and beauty.
DALEA CANDIDA
The Dalea Candida also known as the White Prairie Clover is a plant species native to Missouri. In this graphic is the research associated with the plants characteristics as it pertains to its habitat, culture and region.
ECO RAIN GARDENS
The objective behind the Eco Rain Gardens was to redesign Auburn's Thach concourse in order to make it more ecologically friendly. In doing so, I centered my project around the verb “slow”. I wanted to create a bio-diverse space that allowed for students to simply slow down and rest between classes.
RAIN GARDEN PLAN
In designing such a place I incorporated boardwalks and seating that run parallel to rain gardens that collect rainwater, as well as incorporating bio-diverse plant species native to the Alabama region. Included are white yarrow, linden trees, maidenhair ferns and big bluestem grass.
